Midtown in the Making

Being one the most detail intensive area on the map to recreate the heart of Midtown is far from finished. Only the a handful of the recognizable buildings line the avenues and streets.

Some of which being W.R. Grace, Grand Central, the Chrysler Building and the Metlife Building. For the time being plazas serve as a placemark for where the real world buildings stand.

Haughwout Building

The beautiful Italianate Haughwout Building on Broadway at Broome Street in SoHo. It was built in 1857, designed by architect John Gaynor who was inspired by the San Sorvino Library located on the Piazetta in Venice. Robert Moses threatened to demolish it for his proposed Lower Manhattan Highway in the 1960's. Thankfully preservationist rallied to save this cast iron gem so it can be admired today.

Touch Screens coming to a Taxi Near You

Some quick taxi talk from the streets of SimCity. Your cab may look a bit different inside next time you hop in. The New York Taxi and Limousine Commission announced it is putting in touch screen LCD screens. From NY1,

"Starting Monday touch screens will start showing up in taxicabs across the city.

The touch screen tells passengers where they are in the city, where the good restaurants are, and if their flight is delayed. The touch screen even allows riders to pick the music.

The commissioner of the city's Taxi & Limo Commission predicts the new features will be a hit with tourists and native New Yorkers alike.
"
The touch screens will also allow passengers to pay for their cab fare with credit cards. You can read more at NY1.
